(2) PREPARATION FOR ARRIVAL OF CHICKS
The poultry house is the first thing that must be considered ready. If you already have a prepared house that might have been used previously for brooding birds, ensure that you check and make necessary repairs,. Clean thoroughly and remove old litter. Wash the house with warm detergent and disinfect with Izal or any other disinfectant. As you do this, make sure that you sweep down walls and wire netting and remove all dust. Also keep the house free of cobwebs. The disinfection will help to destroy bacteria, parasites, moulds and spores. Make sure that all the equipment and appliances to be used are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected and rinsed with clean water.
Seal the entire house with cellophane. Place the feed trays, waterier and brooders etc and heat the entire house for at least two weeks. Few days, say 2 or 3 days before the arrival of the chicks, you spread on the floor, clean and dry wood shavings up to 15cm high. Then place a cement paper or feed bag on the 15cm wood shave to serve as initial feeding appliance. The floor must not be slippery
